Demi Lovato’s latest song “Swine” has generated significant controversy due to its explicit support for abortion rights. The timing of the song’s release coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade.

The rage-filled song’s release included a dark music video with clear themes surrounding the abortion debate. In the video, Lovato confronts a table of men who symbolize the Supreme Court, tearing apart a document they signed.

The lyrics of “Swine” also leave no room for interpretation. Lovato boldly proclaims, “My life, my voice, my rights, my choice. It’s mine, or I’m just swine.”

The release also came with announcements from Lovato that outlined how the song’s abortion activism does not stop at lyrical statements and graphic video depictions.

Lovato announced that the profits from “Swine” would be donated to the Reproductive Justice Fund at the Demi Lovato Foundation. This fund, in turn, would support three organizations known for their pro-choice stance: NARAL Pro-Choice America, Plan C, and The National Network of Abortion Funds.

To take it a step further, Lovato’s decided to create a resource center on her website, solely dedicated to promoting abortion services. The center features an interactive map detailing the status of abortion rights in each state, resources from Planned Parenthood guiding individuals on how to access abortion services, and information about available funds and abortion pills.

Despite criticism from pro-life groups and activists, Lovato doesn’t seem like she’ll be changing her tune anytime soon.
