New Year, Old Games: 2023 Releases Are Heavy on Remakes and Sequels

With hype building up around this year’s launches, it only makes sense to touch on some of the top games that are going to be coming out in 2023.

Hogwarts Legacy

For all you Harry Potter fans out there, this open-world action RPG is a must buy. This is going to be a game of the year contender with its beautiful visuals and immersive storyline that will take players into the Wizarding World of J.K. Rowling. Grab your robes and a glass of butterbeer and get ready to be locked in over 80 hours of gameplay on February 10th. People are already commenting across social media about which houses they are in and how they plan on conquering the halls of Hogwarts.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

If you’re looking for an out-of-world experience, look no further than EA’s upcoming Star Wars game. Continuing the adventure of Jedi Cal Kestis, players are going to traverse a galaxy divided after the Empire’s Order 66. This game is the long-awaited sequel of the 2019 game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game will showcase the new Unreal Engine 5. Players can hop into the world of Star Wars on March 17th.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Capcom has been remastering their Resident Evil series over the last few years and gamers have been most excited for Resident Evil 4. Deemed one of the best of the series, players are eager to once again play as Leon Kennedy and save the President’s daughter from an infected cult of monsters. If any survivor horror game needed a makeover, it was this one. Players can relive the 2005 classic on March 24th.

Dead Island 2

After years of teasers, cancellations, and leaks, Dead Island 2 is FINALLY hitting shelves on April 28th. This game had players waiting over 10 years to jump back into the world of the undead. Whether it’s an over the top melee finisher or gunplay carnage, players can find their own way to beat the Zombie hordes. With a drought of good zombie games over the last couple of years, critics are standing by to give this game a play.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Set to release on May 12th, the sequel to Breath of the Wild has Nintendo fans on the edge of their seats. Not too much is known about this game other than Link continuing his journeys through Hyrule. Gamers that enjoy puzzles and have been following the Legend of Zelda storyline this far can expect another hit game on the Switch.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life

Another classic is getting a remake, this time in the form of an RPG farming simulator. The 2004 game Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life is getting a complete overhaul for the Switch, Xbox, and PS5. This fan favorite is widely considered the best in the series with its melodic soundtrack and relaxing gameplay. While an exact date isn’t released, players can expect to return to Forgotten Valley sometime this Summer.

Starfield

Originally set for a 2022 launch, Bethesda pushed this Xbox exclusive back to a Q1-Q2 2023 release. This is the first time a new IP for the legendary company is being used in 25 years. Veterans of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series can expect the same gameplay elements in this game, with director Todd Howard calling it “Skyrim in space”. Players can expect unique interactions following a large intergalactic war between the two leading factions.

The Wolf Among Us 2

Players will be returning to Fabletown for the first time in 10 years as detective Bigby Wolf. With no exact release date, Telltale Games has been urging fans that this is the year they can expect to play this sequel. Telltale has been a giant in the interactive storytelling genre for years with its take on the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Batman.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spiderman fans can expect to swing around New York City once more sometime late this year. It seems that players will be able to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. While little is known about this PS5 exclusive now, it appears Sony is ramping up a big marketing campaign surrounding this title.
