Over a Century of Nintendo
Nintendo didn’t always make video games – in fact it was founded nearly four decades before TVs were even invented.
Founded on September 23, 1889 in Kyoto, Japan, the company started by creating playing cards. Later, Nintendo expanded to create board games and even wooden games for children and adults both – but it wasn’t until 1983 – nearly a full century after its founding, that we were introduced to a little plumber named Mario.
The mega-company started from humble beginnings and now has grown to a world-wide phenomenon. How did it all begin – and what got it to what we know of it today?
CNBC covered the history of Nintendo in this great business biographical piece – it’s informative and pretty fun to watch.
