What to Wear to Get Robbed in DC

Planning on taking a trip to the nation’s capitol? You may not want to wear a specific style of jacket.

Fox News is reporting that, “officials are warning residents and visitors to the nation’s capital to be on the lookout for thieves targeting expensive Canada Goose jackets.”

With the Cherry Blossom Festival on the horizon next month in DC, it’s being recommended that travelers not wear the Canada Goose jackets because criminals in DC will apparently target them over other tourists to rob.

It was reported that there were two thefts happened right near the George Washington University’s downtown campus, prompting school officials to send an alert about the jacket to students.

“While none of the incidents have occurred on campus, two took place near the Foggy Bottom campus on February 1, 2023. Jackets have been taken off of victims, and in some cases, weapons have been brandished,”  stated a message from GWU to its students and faculty.

Fox News further reports that:

“Canada Goose jackets are pricey, ranging from hundreds of dollars up to $1,500.

In one incident this week, a couple from New York who were on a stroll in DuPont Circle in broad daylight with their son said they were approached at gunpoint and forced to hand over their Canada Goose jackets.”

Last month, a Howard University student was surrounded by three suspects, punched and robbed of the same Canada Goose jacket – NBC Washington reported.

Will this change your vacation plans – or did you never intend on visiting Washington, DC?
