In a memo obtained by NBC, US Air Force General Michael Minihan warned over 100,000 subordinates to prepare for hostilities with China.

According to the General, China’s Xi Jinping will capitalize off of a ‘distracted America’ during potential division and turmoil caused by the 2024 Taiwan Presidential Election and the 2024 US Presidential Election.

It seems that there is fear in our Military leadership that controversial elections make America appear weak and is a leading factor in attacks on the interests of our allies. Using this logic, would the General’s reasoning for Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine be Joe Biden winning the 2022 Presidential Election over Donald Trump?

General Milihan’s game plan is to “deter, and if required, defeat China”. It sounds like instead of sending billions of dollars to support a conflict in Taiwan, we will instead be sending Americans to bleed and die for a nation over 7,500 miles away. The instructions for the Air Force Commanders couldn’t be clearer. According to Gen. Minihan, just ‘fire a clip’ at targets and ‘aim for the head’ in order to ‘prepare for the China fight’.

Aren’t Americans tired of these forever wars? Didn’t we just get out of the Middle East, and now we are looking to the Pacific? According to a Pew Research Center Poll, a majority of Americans say “the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not worth fighting”.

Being ready and prepared is a necessary tactic. But to have a memo like this be leaked to the public through the mainstream media has millions of Americans terrified. Especially after witnessing the horrible Afghanistan pullout and turnover of American assets to the Taliban.

The question now becomes this: are we able to hold our own in a Sino-American war? The US’s $773 billion defense budget on top of the over 2 million active and reserve members of the Armed Forces can give us the peace of mind that whatever conflict the United States is in, it will end in an overwhelming victory.

For now, we must hope, like General Michael Minihan, that his gut feeling is wrong. The leaders of our military should focus on plugging the leaky holes in their ranks and preparing for any conflict in silence. Because now, our enemies are aware that we are forecasting war and will act accordingly. Peace through strength kept us safe for 4 years under President Trump, a return that will ensure our adversaries stay in line.
