January 25th’s Xbox Developer_Direct covered the latest developments in regards to upcoming releases Redfall, Forza, Elder Scrolls, and Minecraft Legends – but it’s the surprise release of Tango Gameworks’ “Hi-Fi Rush” that is taking the internet by storm.

Tango, the developers behind the classic “Evil Within” franchise, unveiled the trailer for their latest project, a rhythm based action RPG that draws inspiration from various anime during the conference and announced that it would be playable immediately. Hi-Fi Rush, which seeks to “mainstream” the rhythm game genre, has skyrocketed to an 8.4 rating on Metacritic in 24 hours and is available for free to anyone with an Xbox GamePass subscription.

In an industry where excessive delays plague some of the biggest releases, Tango’s surprise drop has been lauded with praise.
