Missouri State House Fast Tracks Bill RAISING Utility Rates

The Missouri House of Representatives is now fast-tracking legislation to raise utility rates on residents of the state by up to 12 percent. This legislation, HB 992/SB 568 has come under fire for creating barriers to competition and essentially handing no bid contracts to companies like Ameren and Evergy who have recently announced energy rate spikes coming later this year.

This type of legislation is usually frowned upon by Republicans, which begs the question: why is this bill that puts up barriers to competition being considered by a GOP dominated legislature?

Missouri electric rates are higher than the national average by about 3%, and companies like Ameren and Evergy are actively bidding for transmission projects in other states – just no in the state of Missouri.
