Splash Mountain’s Closure Makes Waves in the Disney Community

One of the most popular rides in Walt Disney World shut its doors for the last time this past weekend. Thousands of people traveled to the park to hop in the log flume and say goodbye to Splash Mountain. Some riders even reported seeing up to three-hour wait times as the day went on.

The ride is based on the 1940s Disney film “Song of the South”, which is almost impossible to come across today. The film is about a young boy visiting his grandmother’s plantation. There he meets a worker who shares entertaining stories about Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear. Disney has since parted ways with the controversial animation that was tagged as racist.

With the cancellation of the film, Magic Kingdom has decided to rebrand Splash Mountain with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This new ride will focus on diversity and inclusion by highlighting the 2009 movie, “The Princess and the Frog”.

Fans have since taken to social media to share their last time riding the nostalgic attraction. Youtube channel TheTimTracker posted the following video showcasing their goodbye to Splash Mountain. Comments range from support of the closure to outrage that another classic has been canceled.
