Twitter Users Go Private After Noticing Fluke In Algorithm
Twitter users have been turning their accounts from ‘Public’ to ‘Private’ after noticing that tweets were being shown to more of their followers after locking their accounts.
The Twitter algorithm has been under constant maintenance since Tesla CEO Elon Musk took over the social media company.
After experiencing an initial boost, many users have started complaining about a newfound lack of engagement. In one response, Musk noted that this could be due to the cleanup of bots on the site.
In a prior interaction, Musk contributed the drop in engagement to a change in the ‘For You’ algorithm that showed users more tweets from users that they were not following instead of ones that they were. However, the Twitter CEO stated that the change had been fixed.
Now, users have been testing out the difference between private and public account settings in an attempt to be seen by a larger percent of their following. Ian Miles Cheong shared the difference in stats when he tried out the trick for himself, which caught the attention of Musk himself.
While we all wait for Musk & Co to look into the apparent issues with the algorithm, have fun not being able to Retweet your favorite Twitter users and influencers.
