According to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, the state will review its relationship with the pharmacy Walgreens after the company said that it would not sell the abortion pill in compliance with state laws where abortion is illegal.

On Monday, Newsom tweeted:

“California won’t be doing business with

@walgreens — or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk. We’re done.”

According to Newsom’s office,

“CA is reviewing all relationships between Walgreens and the state. We will not pursue business with companies that cave to right wing bullies pushing their extremist agenda or companies that put politics above the health of women and girls.”

It is not clear what business, if any California will be severing with Walgreens.

In response, Walgreens stated that it would sell the abortion pill in states where it is legal, which would include California:

“From the outset, we have made our intentions clear to become a certified pharmacy to distribute Mifepristone wherever legally possible to do so.”
